India-Pakistan tensions: Schools in Chandigarh to reopen on Tuesday
CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh education department announced that all schools in the city would resume regular classes from Tuesday. Schools were closed from Thursday to Saturday last week following escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan. Monday, May 12, is a gazetted holiday on account of Buddha Purnima. An official of the education department said that there was no change in plans at present. "As of now, schools will reopen on Tuesday," the official said on Sunday. "We are monitoring the situation and will issue any fresh instructions if needed." The closure had applied to both government and private schools. The department had issued the directive as a precautionary measure amid reports of heightened military activity across the border. While no fresh advisory was issued over the weekend, officials said they were in regular contact with the administration and would act swiftly in case the situation required a reassessment of the decision. In Panchkula, schools can operate as usual.
