Margao:Police investigation into the knife attack case is under way, with the accused, Anant Kadam, being subjected to intense interrogation by the Quepem police. Kadam was arrested in Sangli on Thursday and brought to Goa.While full details of what transpired between Kadam and the victim that led to the violent attack are yet to be known, police said it appeared to be driven by anger after Kadam suspected the woman was rejecting his romantic advances.
Kadam was wanted for allegedly attacking a 21-year-old woman in broad daylight at Shirvoi, Quepem, on May 12. He allegedly followed the victim and her female friend in his car between 1.15pm and 1.45pm. According to the complaint filed by her friend, Kadam rammed their scooter before physically assaulting both women. When the victim refused to enter his vehicle, he allegedly stabbed her in the left side of her stomach.
Selected for recruitment into the state police force in 2023, Kadam abandoned his training in Delhi midway. Police investigation revealed that romance was the driving force behind his decision. So deeply enamoured was Kadam with his beloved that he could not bear the separation.
He returned home to remain close to the object of his affection.
He faces charges under Sections 126(2) and 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for wrongful restraint and attempt to murder, respectively.
The victim, a resident of Borim-Shiroda, remains in critical condition at the GMC, where she is undergoing treatment for severe stab wounds to her abdomen.
