'We have received a copy of report': Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara on caste census

NEW DELHI: Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara confirmed receiving the state's caste census report on Monday and announced that a special cabinet meeting would be held on April 17 to review and discuss it.
The report, submitted by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes to the Siddaramaiah-led cabinet, could make Karnataka the second Congress-ruled state after Telangana to release a caste census.

"We have received a copy of the report, and the chief minister has asked us to study it. With respect to the caste census, the cabinet will meet on the 17th. We will discuss it in the cabinet. We'll see what happens," said Parameshwara.
The home minister emphasized the need for careful consideration before making any statements about the census findings.
"I can't say anything about the caste census. It will be inappropriate if I say anything without discussing. We will study the report carefully, and the Cabinet will take a decision based on it," he stated.
In a separate development, Parameshwara addressed a tragic incident in Hubbali city involving the kidnapping and murder of a 5-year-old girl by a man from Bihar.
"I have ordered an investigation and let the report come," the Home Minister said regarding the Hubbali case.
The police had apprehended the suspect in the kidnapping case. However, when they took him to the crime scene, he attempted to attack the officers.
In response to the attack, the police fired at the suspect in self-defense, causing injuries. The suspect later died while being transported to the hospital.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities have asked the public to await the final report for complete details of the case.
