WWE Backlash 2025 delivered plenty of memorable moments, but none more alarming than the nasty fall suffered by Drew McIntyre during the United States Championship fatal four-way match. After being slammed through two tables by Damian Priest, concerns about McIntyre’s health took center stage. Fortunately, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H offered a calming update: McIntyre is "a little banged up, but totally fine."
Drew McIntyre lands head-first after brutal chokeslam
In a wild match that featured McIntyre, Priest, LA Knight, and defending champion Jacob Fatu, things turned dangerous when the action spilled into the production area.
Priest hoisted McIntyre up and delivered a devastating South of Heaven chokeslam from atop a platform. The two men crashed through tables below, but McIntyre’s head appeared to miss the table and instead hit the concrete floor.

Fans in attendance at the LDLC Arena were visibly concerned as McIntyre clutched the back of his head. Medical personnel rushed to the scene, and PWInsider later reported that he was undergoing evaluation backstage.
Adding to the concern, reports from Bryan Alvarez indicated that McIntyre may have been checked for a possible concussion, heightening fears of a long-term injury.
Speaking at the post-show press conference, Triple H addressed the situation with a touch of humor and a lot of relief. “Luckily, everybody is healthy,” he said. “Priest has a tooth he’s hoping will stay in his head for a few more days, but other than that, Drew McIntyre is a little banged up but totally fine.”

Despite the scare, neither superstar required hospitalization. Both are expected to be back in action sooner rather than later, though a short break for recovery might be in the cards.
With McIntyre and Priest effectively taken out of the match, LA Knight and Jacob Fatu continued the battle in the ring. Just as Knight seemed poised to capitalize, Solo Sikoa interfered, leading to the surprise debut of Jeff Cobb, who attacked Knight and tossed him back into the ring.
Fatu took full advantage, pinning Knight to retain the United States Championship. The outcome sparked outrage among fans and sets the stage for further drama on SmackDown.
While both superstars avoided serious injury, their futures remain uncertain. McIntyre, who has been on a relentless pursuit of singles gold, may take a short break before returning to the title picture. Priest, meanwhile, continues to establish himself as a singles powerhouse.
WWE fans will be watching closely to see what unfolds next on SmackDown, where both men are expected to make their return and address the fallout from Backlash.
