Despite a disappointing early playoff exit and growing rumors about a possible departure,
LeBron James is not expected to leave the Los Angeles Lakers. Sports analyst and NFL legend Shannon Sharpe has recently shut down the rumors with a bold response while giving details on the prospect of the Lakers legend’s future in the organization. Sharpe believes James will remain with the Lakers in the final days of his career before hanging up his basketball sneakers.
Shannon Sharpe gives a bold statement on LeBron James’ rumored departure from the Los Angeles Lakers
On a recent episode of Nightcap, Shannon Sharpe poured cold water on any speculation that LeBron James is preparing to walk away from the Purple and Gold.
“No, I don’t see it happening,” Sharpe said. “He loves everything about LA. Savannah loves everything about LA. I think he really loves the Lakers. I really think he loves living in LA.”
Sharpe isn’t alone in defending the King's loyalty to the City of Angels, but few have his access or conviction. According to him, the factors keeping LeBron in Los Angeles go beyond basketball.

“The weather is nice year-round. He don’t really have to have an overcoat. You know you can have a top down damn near year-round. You got water, you got beaches. I mean everything. His businesses are in LA. There’s really nothing for him not to like about LA.”
LeBron, who is now 40 and in his 22nd NBA season, averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds over 70 games this season. Yet, with the Lakers falling in the first round to the Timberwolves, some are questioning whether L.A. is still the right place for him to pursue a fifth title.
Sharpe further invoked the names of past Lakers legends who finished their careers in L.A. to make his point clear on why James should follow suit.
“Shaq is the only one I can remember that came here and left. Kareem didn’t leave. Wilt didn’t leave. Kobe didn’t leave. Magic didn’t leave.”
After seven seasons with the Lakers, including delivering a 2020 championship and revitalizing the franchise after years of turmoil, he’s now entrenched as one of the team’s icons.
This season, the Lakers made a major move by pairing LeBron with Luka Doncic, creating one of the NBA’s most exciting backcourts. While the combination gave the team a championship-level ceiling, it also exposed the loopholes in the roster.
“Go back and do what? You play with Luka,” Sharpe said of his James’ partnership with Doncic.
