The New Orleans Saints were counting on their star quarterback Derek Carr’s return, but a medical examination of his right shoulder led him to leave the NFL, in its entirety. Carr considered surgery, but the medical staff could not fully promise that his shoulder would feel the same after it. Taking into account many factors, 34-year-old Derek Carr opted for an early retirement on May 10.Ever since then, everybody’s in shock. Including his own older brother, David Carr. David Carr said, “He walked away from a lot of money, I look at it from the player’s perspective.” David Carr played for the New York Giants as their starting quarterback and retired from that position when he, himself, was 32 or 33 years old.
On May 14, David Carr talks about his brother - Derek Carr’s total withdrawal, no comeback, no second thoughts about his return, and contentment after retirement - with Ian Rapoport, NFL Insider, and Judy Battista, American Sports Journalist for NFL.com.

David Carr says one of the reasons for Derek Carr’s retirement is that his children are getting older

David Carr shared with Ian Rapoport and Judy Battista, “The decision was not easy. It was something that he(Derek Carr) had to think long and hard about.
There were a lot of different things that factored into it - his children are getting older - they wanna play catch with their dad, they wanna be around, his shoulder wasn’t what it was before, and when he tried to ramp up throwing again this year, it just didn’t feel right, it never felt comfortable. And, he knows how hard it is to go through an NFL season fully healthy, as opposed to kind of trying to struggle your way into getting ready to play Week 1. All those factors weighed in.”

The NFL completion percentage leader, David Carr, shared, “It was time. He’s very content with where he is. He walked away from a lot of money - I look at it from the player’s perspective. He could have easily said - you know, I’ll have the surgery, let me just get through the season, just cut me a cheque.”

Former quarterback for the Houston Texans expressed, “I believe he’s done. Derek loves the game. I think more than anything, he loved his teammates. I could tell, just in the last couple of days, he’s definitely done playing, he’s moved on because like I said, his family, his boys, and his little girl are getting older and they’re probably gonna want their dad around more, so that means more to him than anything else.”Also read: Oluwafemi Oladejo says he feels good being an edge rusher at Tennessee Titans, but he's not satisfied | NFL News - The Times of India
