Thursday night in Green Bay will mark more than just a career milestone for Travis Hunter Jr.—it will be a powerful family reunion. After missing his son’s Heisman Trophy ceremony, Travis Hunter Sr. has now received special clearance to attend the 2025 NFL Draft at Lambeau Field. “He will be restricted to his hotel and the draft grounds,” as reported by USA Today, due to a three-year probation following a 2023 arrest.
This emotional presence comes at a pivotal moment, as Hunter Jr.—a generational two-way talent and former No. 1 recruit—is expected to be among the top picks. He'll also be one of 15 players invited to the green room to shake hands with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Travis Hunter’s big night turns personal as his father joins the draft after legal clearance

While college football sensation Travis Hunter Jr. continues to dominate headlines, his emotional rise to the Heisman Trophy stage comes with a story rooted deeply in personal struggles and family redemption. His father, Travis Hunter Sr., once a promising athlete himself, has lived a life marked by both talent and turbulence.

Hunter Sr. was a football and track standout at Boynton Beach High School in Florida during the early 2000s, later playing semipro football in the state. However, in November 2023, his life took a sharp turn following a traffic stop that led to gun and drug charges. This led to a 90-day jail sentence in September 2024, followed by a three-year probation period, with the first year under strict home confinement.
Despite these legal hurdles, Hunter Sr.’s presence—though from a distance—was powerfully felt throughout his son’s meteoric college career. According to USA TODAY, he spent the latter part of Colorado’s 2024 season watching from the confines of the Palm Beach County West Detention Center. Still, his spirit remained a motivating force behind his son's rise.
The emotional highlight came during the 2024 Heisman Trophy ceremony. In a teary-eyed tribute, Travis Hunter Jr. addressed his absent father on national television:
"I want to say something to my father. He's not here and wasn't able to make it but I know you're watching on TV," he said. "Dad, I love you. For all the stuff you went through man. Now look at your oldest son. I did it for you, man."

Just nine days before that heartfelt speech, Hunter Sr. had been released from detention, narrowly missing the ceremony in person. However, as reported by the Palm Beach Post, he has since been allowed limited travel—permitted to attend the upcoming NFL Draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin, under tight restrictions. Aside from attending the draft at Lambeau Field, he is confined to his hotel, with all movements pre-approved by his community control officer.
Travis Hunter Jr.’s journey isn’t just about breaking records—it’s about breaking cycles. His rise symbolizes hope, resilience, and the unspoken strength passed down from father to son.
