Toronto Maple Leafs star Mitchell Marner has earned several accolades in his career in the NHL. The star hails from Vaughan in Ontario and has been the proud recipient of the Memorial Cup, the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy, CHL Player of the Year, the Red Tilson Trophy and others. We are taking a look at his life beyond ice hockey. He married his longtime girlfriend Stephanie LaChance and shares a son with her.
The love story of Mitchell Marner and Stephanie LaChanceThe popular couple first met when they were in elementary school in Markham, Ontario. They had been acquaintances growing up in the same town, but connected when LaChance was attending Western University and
Mitchell Marner was playing for the London Knights. Marner reached out to LaChance in 2015, when he was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, while she was celebrating her 19th birthday.
This resulted in a whirlwind romance, with Stephanie soon attending Marner's matches and cheering him on from the stands. It wasn't until June 2021 that Marner popped the question at their Muskoka Cottage while being surrounded by family. The duo tied the knot in a private ceremony at Peller Estates winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake in Ontario. The guest list included A-listers such as Auston Matthews, Morgan Rielly, John Tavares, Nazem Kadri, among others.
In February 2025, news broke of Stephanie's pregnancy. The news became viral when Jake McCabe's wife Gaby, shared a picture of the invite to their baby shower. A greeting card in colours blue and white carried the text, "Oh boy, welcome Baby Marner".
Earlier this month on the 4th of May, the official handle of Leafs PR wrote, "Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner and his wife, Stephanie, welcomed the arrival of a baby boy this morning. Marner will not participate in today’s practice." Commenting on the happy news,
Craig Berube shared that fatherhood was, "one of the best feelings you'll ever have."
