The north-east direction: More than just a corner; Understanding the true Ishaan Kon in Vastu

In Vastu Shastra, the North-East direction is referred to as the Ishaan Kon—a sacred and highly sensitive zone. Many people mistakenly assume that this corner is simply the area between the north and east directions as seen from the entrance of a house. However, this is a misconception.
According to Celebrity Astrologer Parduman Suri, the North-East should be determined from the center of the house. Every space that extends from the center toward the North-East is considered part of the Ishaan Kon, not just the outer edge visible from the entrance.
As Parduman Suri warns, “Incomplete knowledge is more dangerous than ignorance.” If a part of your home—such as a bedroom, refrigerator, kitchen, heavy construction, staircase, toilet, or storeroom, occupies the North-East zone (as measured from the center), it can disturb the Vastu and energy balance of the entire home.
Simply placing a temple or meditation room in the Ishan corner, or installing a water tank above it, does not automatically ensure positivity or favorable results.
It’s also a common mistake to assume that placing a well or borewell in this direction is auspicious because the North-East is associated with the water element. In reality, doing so may disrupt energy flow. A better alternative is placing a fish tank or aquarium between the center of the house and the North-East zone.
The North-East is believed to be the entry point of natural or pranic energy, and hence, it should be kept open, light, clean, and clutter-free. Every part of the North-East, from the center of the home to its farthest point, should not house heavy furniture, beds, or dirty or broken items.

To activate and protect the energy of this direction, ensure the space is well-lit and ventilated. If any part of a room falls into the North-East from the center of the house, keep an LED light switched on at all times. Avoid placing trash, shoes, or damaged items in this zone.
Proper awareness and placement in the Ishaan Kon can bring clarity, peace, and prosperity. Misuse or neglect can attract obstacles, confusion, and even financial ruin.
