Ilaiyaraaja, the legendary composer and a close friend of SPB shared his thoughts on social media, expressing his gratitude to the Tamil Nadu government. He wrote, "In memory of my friend Balu, I am deeply moved by the decision to rename the road where his house is located to Balasubramaniam Road. I extend my heartfelt thanks to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on behalf of the people of Tamil Nadu and the film industry for this fitting tribute."
The initiative to rename the street was led by SPB’s son,
SPB Charan, who, on behalf of his family and fans, had requested the Tamil Nadu government to honor his father's legacy in this manner. The Chief Minister approved this request and announced the decision on September 25, SP Balasubrahmanyam’s death anniversary.
Earlier,
Kamal Haasan, who shared a long and cherished association with SPB, also welcomed the government's decision. He took a moment to reminisce about the many fond memories he had with the legendary singer. SPB Charan, overwhelmed by the gesture, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Tamil Nadu government for fulfilling the wish of his family and fans by immortalizing his father’s name in this way.
