The incident occurred at Ram Gopal intersection in Gujaini, where the parents physically attacked their son and his girlfriend while they were eating at a street-side eatery.
KANPUR: A shocking incident occurred in Kanpur on Friday when parents physically assaulted their 21-year-old son and his girlfriend in public.
The incident, which was captured on video and has since spread across social media, took place at Ram Gopal intersection in the Gujaini locality, on Friday.
According to local authorities, Rohit was having chowmein with his girlfriend at a street-side eatery when his parents, Shiv Karan and Sushila, discovered them. Disapproving of their relationship, the parents began assaulting the couple in full public view.
The footage shows Sushila striking the young pair as they attempt to leave on a motorcycle, whilst trying to grasp the girl's hair. Onlookers are seen attempting to assist the couple, whilst Rohit's father is recorded striking him with a slipper.
Police arrived at the scene and intervened to control the situation.
The Gujaini police station's officer-in-charge Vinay Tiwari confirmed that they are conducting an ongoing investigation into the matter. "In this case, the police separated both parties after counseling them, and further necessary legal action is being taken," he informed further.
