LeBron James has been trying his best to defend his son Bronny James from nepotism allegations as the rising NBA star is still sky high. However, LeBron also has had support from many at times. Recently, former Los Angeles Lakers star Matt Barnes has shared his thoughts on the nepotism allegations LeBron and his son have been facing since his Lakers debut.
Matt Barnes defends LeBron James and Bronny James, slamming nepotism allegations
Bronny James made his name as a standout G-League star with astonishing stat lines, and he tried to make his name in the main roster in his rookie year. Bronny, in his limited time in several games, delivered some noticeable performances, but for many critics, Bronny was not NBA-ready, as he was only in the league due to his father’s heavy influence.
Whatever the case, LeBron and Bronny created history to be the first father-son duo to play on the same team in the same game. That was wild, indeed, both for Bronny and the senior. Matt Barnes highlighted the same thing, sharing that he would do anything to play alongside his son the way James did.
"I would have given anything to be able to play on the same court in the NBA with my son," Barnes said recently.
Certainly, playing alongside Bronny was LeBron’s number one accomplishment. “When it comes to the titles, that's one separate thing. But to be able to play in this league and also being able to do it alongside Bronny right now, that's one of the biggest accomplishments and probably the No. 1 accomplishment I've ever been able to do," James said of the moment.
The 40-year-old Lakers veteran continued, “To work with your son — I've heard it from a lot of people and, not only [in] sports, but I've heard it in business and [other] walks of life, and they say it's the greatest thing you could ever have.”
The emotional King also shared how proud he was to see his son growing in the basketball scene. “To see him every day, grinding and going through the process of trying to become who he wants to become while I'm sitting there and just watching him, and doing the things that he wants to do and being able to just take it all in ... it helps me get some of the minutes and hours and years back that I did not have with him because I was playing so much and on the road and doing my own thing, and traveling,” he shared.
He added, “So to be able to get some of his time back now, man, it's pretty special.”
