Good Friday 2025: Here's what is open and closed in the USA

The Friday before Easter Sunday is celebrated as Good Friday each year. The day holds large significance for Christians and will be celebrated on April 18th, in 2025.
Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and is thus observed as a day of penance, fasting and mourning as per Britannica. However, it is not a federal holiday in the US and federal government offices, postal services and most schools will remain open on Good Friday.

While the day is observed as a state holiday in some states, it is not a federal holiday. Twelve states consider Good Friday as a state holiday. These are Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Louisiana, North Carolina, Nort Dakota, New Jersey, Tennessee and Texas. Kentucky observes it for one and a half days.

U.S. Postal Service will be functioning normally on Good Friday with the retail transactions and mail delivery going on as usual.
Banks at large will be open on Good Friday. Banks such as Capital One, Wells Fargo, PNC, Truist, Citibank and JPMorgan Chase confirmed the same to USA TODAY.
The United Parcel Service will continue its pickup and delivery service on Good Friday.
The FedEx pickup and delivery service along with the offices will be open on Good Friday.

This year's Easter will take place on April 20th, Sunday. The day commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and comes after the 40-day Lenten season. Easter is a moving holiday along with Palm Sunday and Ash Wednesday.
